Guanajuato is an ancient mining city rising in a valley, spread over the core of this land. An intimate, monumental city of history, where present and past create harmony, mystery and beauty.

As you walk around the streets, you get to live a real experience thanks to the mining industry since its architecture is something worth admiring, regardless of how the city became a gallery where countless artists and artisans captured their work turning it into a prized treasure. As a result of its beauty and historical tradition, the city was declared Humanity Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

Settled in a valley, with irregular surface due to the hills all over its areas. Its neoclassic buildings open spaces to baroque squares and temples. An ancient underground river, now a street, which crosses the city among vaults and arches; the strange form of the narrow streets blends with the vital space and the architectonic values of a “hidden city”.

Alhondiga de Granaditas is the first scenario for Mexico’s independence battle to first take place in. It now opens doors as a Museum of Regional History; in central Plaza de la Paz, you can admire a series of magnificent buildings such as Basilica Colegiata de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato, the City Hall, Conde Rul’s House and the Lawcourts, this is one of the most ancient buildings in the city. Jardin de la Union is the main meeting point for the local people and visitors to admire the wonderful atmosphere, and seeing the Monument to Pipila in San Miguel downtown, once you are in the terrace, enjoy from typical coffee shops and restaurants, among the crowd and the singing of the music students gathering around to go out to the streets with their lively music; the monumental complex of Juarez Theatre and San Diego de Alcala baroque temple are worth admiring. In the urban area, Hacienda de San Gabriel de Barrera and Mineral de Valenciana are testimonies of the legendary abundance of silver. Antique art objects, wonderful golden altarpieces and the majestic San Cayetano Temple (Valenciana) certify the impressive riches taken from the mines in the eighteenth century.

The worldwide famous Internacional Cervantino Festival is a great event that has been carried out for more than thirty years, with the participation of 36 countries that represent world class artistic expressions in opera, theatre, dance, music and exhibitions, in addition to mimes, minstrels and artists that can be seen over the streets.
